On 21st November 2014, the teachers and students of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, Gorai joined in the National Movement Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and organized a cleanliness drive to spread awareness to the community at large. The students were enthusiastic to be a part of the programme that was initiated by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
The students marched in a procession and displayed banners, placards, posters and shouted slogans to motivate and inspire people to keep their environment clean and hygienic. They picked up polythene bags, wrappers, rotten fruits and vegetables, rags, etc. that were polluting the area and causing damage to human life. The teachers and students set an example by sweeping the streets and dumping the waste in dustbins.
The students also interacted with the residents of the locality to build consciousness about cleanliness and create a sense of accountability and responsibility in every Indian about keeping the country clean.
We intend to keep the spirit of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan alive at the ground level and to ensure basic cleanliness and hygiene rather than waiting for the government. This drive will only be achieved by a combined effort of the people and the government.
This CAS experience would help build the self-esteem, self-confidence and self-reliance of the students.
The CAS learning outcomes achieved from this experience were:
- Planned and initiated activity
- Worked collaboratively with others
- Shown perseverance and commitment
- Engaged with issues of global importance

This experience of Creativity and Service helped to develop the caring, communicating and reflecting attributes from the IB learner Profile. The Students plan to organize frequent cleanliness drives and also involve the residents of the locality.
